C PAP

We were on the way to the hosptial this morning when Shane got the call from the NICU nurse in charge. She said that they had to put Nayeli on the C PAP to help her with her breathing rate. It was too high and they wanted to give her lungs a rest. We both are worried but know that this will help give her lungs a rest.

When we arrived at the hospital one of the Dr's told Shane that the C PAP will be on for a few days to see if her breathing rate will come down. That is what they are hoping for. The other hope is that the C PAP will expand her lung to push the fluid out that is accumalated in her chest.

On a good note, according to Dr's, Nayeli is becoming less dependent on pain medication (although she did have a bad few hours last night). They have also upped her feedings to 42 cc's, she is so close to eating like a baby not in the NICU. We pray she adjusts well to this increase in food and does not have any issues keeping it down!

We are praying that the C PAP will help Nayeli and will resolve her breathing rate and the fluid in her chest. Please pray for Nayeli, we know that this is one turn on the roller coaster we are on and will lengthen her stay here. We hope we face a smoother ride from now on.

You got it...I am praying very hard for her and you are right, you are facing another hurdle, but she will get through it and so will the both of you. This condition forces parents to see the highs and lows that it brings, but trust me when I say this, she is doing so much better than my son did..and she will progress. It may not seem like it, but the cpap may be a blessing in disguise..if Nayeli had to work so hard to breathe while her lungs are growing..it may have taken her twice as long to be where she needs to be to get home. Any help she can receive to make it easier on her is a good thing. Think of all of the poor babies in this country and others that don't have access to the best equipment...she is indeed blessed. hang in there and know, that these little bumps in the road are to be expected and you will all be fine when all is said and done. Keep the faith. Love to all, Gail

Jason uses a CPAP when he sleeps, so it's so cute to see a mini one on Nayeli. It really helps him sleep soundly and have a lot more energy during the day. It is so much healthier for him. I know it's scary with all those tubes and it feels like a setback and it's okay to worry because that parental protection in you is in high gear. She is under amazing care and thank goodness because they monitor everything and have her best interest. I bet you will start to see great results. She is so strong surrounded by such love...and sooo beautiful, too!xoxo

Sorry to hear that she needs CPAP, but like you said it will give her lungs a rest. I hope that the fluid issue gets resolved soon.

Amy

By the way she looks very cute in white.

I will be praying for you and Nayeli. My son is a CDH survivor. He had alot of fluid buildup also they eventually put in a drain tube and that worked. Stay strong. Just remember and I''m sure you've heard this a thousand times but it's one step forward and 2 steps back. CDH babies are so strong and so are you. You will be in our prayers.
