She is our ..........Brown Eyed Girl!!!

Last night I finally got some sleep. The nurse gave me ambien and I was out in 30 minutes. Shane checked on Nayeli at midnight and they were washing her hair for the first time. She has an adorable full head of soft chocolate brown hair! Shane got to see her eyes open while he was there. I am so glad I took the ambien because it was getting late last night and I still couldn't sleep. I wanted to get up to breast pump because I am supposed to do it every three hours, but the nurses told me one night is not going to hurt. I woke this morning feeling great!

This morning when were visiting Nayeli the nurse told us Nayeli is getting 10mcg of morphine instead of 15mcg and they took her off of Pavilon which makes her not move or open her eyes. We saw Nayeli open her beautiful brown eyes today and she wiggled her hands, feet and toes. We even saw her make a boo boo face (as Shane calls it). The nurse showed us how to take her temp, and put ointment on her dry feet, chest and lips. I was so excited to do it that I forgot about my surgery discomfort. Nayeli opened her beautiful brown eyes for us a couple of times. It was the most precious moment for us. We are so happy to see her take these steps forward. We continue to pray that our baby girl continues to fight this battle against CDH.

Mommy and Daddy with me after a good nights rest.

Mommy giving me a massage with ointment for my dry skin

Daddy and I have matching piano toes

Stop messing with my hair!

Mommy....Daddy....What are they doing to me?

Yesterday, I met with the hospital social worker Stephanie. She introduced me to a fire fighter and his wife, who were from out of state and were here for a check up on thier son. Their son is now 6 months old and had a pretty severe case of RCDH. He was still on oxygen which simply keeps his C02 levels high, and he is doing wonderfully. I was happy to see a baby that successfully fought CDH. I shared it with Liz and she was happy to hear the news.

Liz, Nayeli is so beautiful and she looks fantastic. Who would have thought she just had life saving surgery. Keep it up Nayeli, the way you are going, you will be home with mummy and daddy before you know it. Oh i was just wondering what was her birth weight. I dont think you wrote it down.

She looks sooo good and beautiful. I can't believe she just had surgery. That's wonderful that you get to do some caretaking things for her so you can bond and soak her all in. She is such a fighter surrounded by loads of love. I pumped for Quinn when he was in the NICU and I know that helped him get big and healthy and before I knew it he was home with me. I'm so glad to hear you are doing that, too. It's such a gift to her. Thanks for the updates! xoxo

Shane and Liz..this is for Nayeli
Nayeli precious little gem
Your heart so sweet and pure
Life doesn't seem to be so fair
For all you must endure
God plucked you from His garden
So full of special things
And sent you down to earth to see
Two angels without wings
He called them both your parents
And their love for you is true
You'll never have two people
Who will love you like they do
So fight oh little precious dear
You've just begun to live
And know the parents you are with
Have so much love to give
God chose you for each other
And He never makes mistakes
I know you'll fight with all your might
He gave you what it takes
Bless you all and keep the faith. Love to all, Gail

I just found your blog through another blog I have been visiting, and I read about your sweet Nayeli! She is beautiful!

I also have a daughter who will be turning two years old next month. She had a left CDH. Your daughter's CDH sounds almost identical to my daughter's!! My daughter Raelyn did very well after birth, and had her repair surgery at day two! They also found they same abdominal organs in her chest....her stomach, spleen, intestine, and colon herniated. She did not need a patch either! Like your daughter, they were able to stretch her diaphram closed! (We too were so thakful and blessed for this!) Our daughter is doing amazing today and is very healthy..and I wish the same for your daughter as well! I will be praying for your baby girl and for the strength of you and your family during this difficult period of ups and downs with Nayeli!

Liz ad Shane,

Her eyes are gorgeous! She is a little baby doll! Well one thing that Ava and Nayeli have in common is their heigth and weight! They are going to be such great friends! So glad to hear you rested Liz. It does feel good. Keep the pumping up. It gets old but I found that it was the one thing I could do and control for my sweet new princess! Prayers for you both and your little princess.

~Ava say to tell Nayeli if she can do this she can too!
