Nayeli is out of surgery

Dr. Mckenzie came into our room around 330pm and told us Nayeli's surgery went well. Nayeli didn't need a gortex patch for her repair surgery they stitched her up using some of her muscles. Dr. Mckenzie showed us pictures of her right and left lung and also where they stitched the repair hole. Nayeli had her stomach, intestines, colon and spleen up in her chest no liver. The Dr. said that in her utero ultrasounds it showed part of her liver was up but that wasn't the case. We were so happy to hear this. Shane and I held hands as we were listening to her give us all the news. We were soaking it in. Dr. Mckenzie the next 5 days are going to be like a roller coaster. Nayeli will have good days and bad days. I asked when would Nayeli be out of the danger zone. Dr. Mckenzie said after 5 days. We are praying for Nayeli to remain stable and have a good recovery from her surgery. As the Dr. left the room I wanted to scream and yell at the top of my lungs THANK YOU GOD! I don't have much of a voice from sleep deprivation so I did it anyway. I asked the nurse if I can get something to help me sleep. She said she would get the Dr. for me. I need sleep and I can't seem to be able to get any with all my emotions. I have never had a problem sleeping. I want to get my rest so I can be here for Nayeli. Shane went to grab our parents that were waiting in the waiting room brought them. Harris was also visiting and we shared the news with them.

This has been a good day and I am taking the good news and will continue to pray for my preicous Nayeli. We are so grateful for everyone who have been supporting us, through emails, phone calls, and on the blog. We couldn't do this without you. We love you all so much. It brings tears to my eyes reading all of your comments for us. We feel so loved by all of you and we appreciate you being here for us. Thank you to all and please keep praying for Nayeli. She is going to kick CDH booty, I just know it!!!

You said it best "warrior princess Nayeli is going to kick CDH booty!"

That is wonderful news that she didn't need a patch! Woohoo!

I will be praying that Nayeli will continue to be stable and go along for the ride with out any major set backs.

After my son had his repair surgery at 18 days old. He was so sick they operated on him in the NICU and we were told the next five days with be very critical and he will get worse before he gets better. We listened to what the docs had to say but I new that he would prove them wrong and he did! He amazed all the docs he just kept getting better and five days later I was able to hold him for the first time. Three weeks after surgery we were able to bring him home!

I am only sharing these with you because he is prove that all CDH babies don't get worse before they get better. Once they are fixed some just get better. Nayeli seems like she is on the right road. I will continue to pray that she will be able to recover quickly and hopefully soon she will be cradled in he mommy and daddy's arms.

alway s in my thoughts and prayers

Amber

P.S Liz and Shane I know it's not easy having a baby in the NICU but as long as Nayeli is stable please try and get some rest. It is really important that you both take care of yourself so you can be their for Nayeli.

Liz and Shane..I would scream Thank you God too......5 days will be nothing compared to the time you have waited to bring that precious baby into this world. She has taught people more about strength and courage in the short time that she has been here than most people will do if they are 100 years old. Great news about the repair and keep fighting Nayeli..you are one blessed little girl. Love to all, Gail

Oh, I'm so happy for you all! Stomach, intestines, colon and spleen are exactly what John Michael had up in his chest. That plus Nayeli crying when she was born are both great signs! I just know she's going to kick cdh booty, just like John Michael. He comes HOME tomorrow!! At 3 weeks of age, not even 3 weeks post-op! I'm sure Nayeli will have a good outcome, too!

That is wonderful news!! Were they able to do it thorascopically? Cadenne had the very same repair, with the flap of muscle stitched to the diaphragm. (They opened her up with the traditional abdominal incision, though.)

I'm so HAPPY to hear that she did so well. I really think she's going to be a little rock star and be home very soon!

Hooray Shane and Elizabeth! This baby is quite a fighter... Her pictures are beautiful. Sending our thoughts and prayers for strength and rest, for the three of you, over the next five days. We can see your network of support is amazing, which is great because good things happen with prayer :)
